What a lovely weekend we’ve just had. I certainly cannot remember a May day weekend with such continuous beautiful weather. Indeed the records show that it was the hottest May Day Monday on record.
I’ll have a bet that nearly everyone was drinking well chilled soft drinks, cider, lager, (water hopefully) and possibly white or sparkling wine.
But what about red. What?, I hear you cry.
But actually some chilled red wines can be beautifully refreshing. Traditionally, Beaujolais was recommended slightly chilled and for me it’s the perfect summer picnic wine (other than Champagne of course).
We guzzled (that only happens in the tabloids of course) a bottle of Morgon, Cru Beaujolais (£11.79 in Waitrose straight from the fridge and it was ace.
We moved on to a bottle of quite decent red (actually the Les Mougeottes Pinot Noir we stock at the restaurant). Straight from the garage it was too warm so we popped it in the freezer for 5 then the fridge for 10 minutes and it was perfect. Cool and refreshing and perfect for the cheese after our barbecue.
Whatever you were drinking I hope you had a fabulous weekend.
